About the Book
New Edition with Solutions to IIT-JAM Geology 2023 and 2022 is here!
Meticulously designed to meet the needs of IIT JAM aspirants, the publication includes curated material to assist aspirants in completing their preparation in the most comprehensive manner within the shortest possible time (about 3-4 months). The contents of this book have been divided into 5 sections.
The first part will have ALL the previous year questions of the IIT-JAM Geology exam fully solved and explained in detail. We have arranged the questions subject wise in descending order of year (i.e. from 2020 to 2005). We have also categorized the questions into 2 sections – simple and inquisitive. Solving the questions subject-wise will not only enable students to have a good grip over the concepts but also help them realize their weak areas in every subject. The explanations provided will bolster revision to the best possible degree.
The second part will have ALL the solved MCQs of the Geology portion in the IIT-JAM Geophysics exam conducted from 2005-2013. This should be helpful for extra practice and preparation.
The third part will consist of 6 model IIT JAM question papers (the first three are fully solved in detail, analogous to the previous year papers while the final three will have just the answer keys). The model test papers have been assiduously prepared as per the IIT-JAM difficulty level. The students may attempt these papers like mock tests which will help them revise and manage time effectively.
The fourth section contains 40 carefully sifted questions for each subject. These questions will test the student’s preparation for every subject and help them build confidence. These questions are challenging, yet important, helping the candidate come to grips with the difficulty level of the actual exam.
The final section contains beautiful photographs that are bound to instill interest in the minds of the reader and are afforded to assist them in understanding the concepts in a better, inspiring way.
We hope that this complete, well-thought-of and organized book will benefit geoscience students across the country in achieving their dream of reaching IIT!
About the Authors
Niloy Chakrabarti’s performance in the field of geosciences has been outstanding. He has completed his graduation in Geological Sciences from Jadavpur University, acquiring First class with Distinction. He secured All India Rank 2 in IIT JAM examination held in 2018. Just after his graduation, he completed an internship under the guidance of Prof. Kalyan Halder from Presidency University and was one of the authors of the research paper titled ‘Palaeoecological analysis of benthic molluscs from the Eocene of Kutch, Gujarat reveals an event of storm induced concentration of shells in a quiet marginal marine environment’. It was published in the ‘Journal of the Geological Society of India’. His splendid record earned him the opportunity to pursue a research internship from University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, Durban, South Africa where he worked on Deccan basalts. Thereafter, he cracked CSIR-NET exam (December, 2019) by securing AIR 1 with record marks (179.36). His feat of acquiring All India Rank 2 in GATE 2020 examination only adds to his ever-increasing list of achievements. Mr. Chakrabarti has joined ONGC as a wellsite geologist.
Rohan Nandy has consistently performed well in his academic career. He completed his B.Sc in Geological Sciences from Jadavpur University, holding 1st class with distinction. Having secured AIR-4 in IIT-JAM 2018, he joined IIT Bombay for his M.Sc degree. His grades at IIT Bombay attest to his brilliance. With a CGPA of 9.59, he had secured maximum marks in his batch of M.Sc Applied Geology and was awarded the Institute Silver Medal. He had also secured AIR-11 in CSIR-NET June 2019 exam. The areas of sedimentology and petroleum geology are his forte. He had worked on “Organic Geochemistry Characterization of Cretaceous shales of Kutch Basin” in his dissertation thesis. Perhaps his greatest academic achievement is being the topper (AIR-1 Geology) in GATE 2020 Geology and Geophysics exam. Currently, he is serving ONGC as an exploration geologist.
