About the Book

As with all natural sciences, the methods of study of geological phenomena has progressed from the descriptive stage to quantification and the stage of model building. In this process of scientific endeavour, statistical methods and models are being increasingly applied to geological sciences. This collection of papers is intended to give readers some insight into the basic concepts of some of the statistical methods that have been used in interpreting geological data and to provide examples of such studies. The book is broadly divided into two parts; the first deals mainly with multivariate techniques and the second with geostatistical methods.
