About The Book

Accurate psychiatric diagnosis begins with a thoughtful and systematic clinical interview. Handbook of Psychiatric Interviewing is a practical guide that equips students and mental health professionals with the essential skills for psychiatric history taking and clinical assessment.

The second edition presents a structured framework for conducting psychiatric interviews, covering personal information, history of presenting complaints, past, family, and personal history, along with physical and mental status examination. It also addresses the unique considerations involved in interviewing special populations, including uncooperative patients, children and adolescents, geriatric patients, and transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) individuals.

In addition, the book discusses the assessment of substance use disorders, headache, epilepsy, and other neurological conditions, while providing concise overviews of psychotropic drugs, psychiatric classifications, rating scales, and psychological assessment tools.

Clear, practical, and clinically relevant, this handbook serves as a valuable resource for undergraduate and postgraduate students, psychiatry residents, psychologists, and other mental health professionals.

Salient Features of the Second Edition:

1. Revised and reorganised throughout for a clearer, more structured, and easy-to-follow presentation.

2. New chapters on nomenclature and classification in psychiatry, including the latest ICD-11 and DSM-5-TR classifications, along with updated classifications of epilepsy and headache disorders.
